As a professional trainer, nothing is more rewarding than watching an organization transition from the weight of legacy systems into the clarity of the digital age. On June 27, 2026, I had the privilege of partnering with Deumai Municipality to design and lead an intensive institutional training program focused on the Cooperative Sector Information System (COPOMIS).
During the program, I worked directly with representatives from 25 local cooperative organizations. Our goal was ambitious but critical: dismantle the traditional, manual ledger-based record-keeping that holds so many institutions back, and successfully migrate them to the Ministry’s centralized online portal.
Breaking the Manual Bottleneck
For years, managing daily transactions, share allocations, and compliance reporting by hand has been a persistent bottleneck for grassroots financial institutions in Nepal. COPOMIS—developed by the Department of Cooperatives—changes the game entirely by integrating real-time data into a secure national database.
But software is only as good as the hands using it. Throughout our intensive workshop, I guided participants through practical, hands-on modules designed to demystify the platform:
- Data Migration & Entry: Securely uploading member profiles, share distributions, and historical financial records without losing data integrity.
- Real-Time Reporting: Generating automated balance sheets and profit-and-loss statements on demand.
- Compliance Management: Streamlining monthly reports to align directly with provincial and federal regulatory frameworks.
More Than Software: Cultivating a Professional Shift
During the sessions, I reminded our participants of a fundamental truth: mastering COPOMIS is no longer just about fulfilling a government mandate—it is a vital step toward professionalizing the cooperative sector.
By embracing digital data management, these organizations are actively mitigating financial risks, eliminating costly accounting errors, and building lasting trust within their communities.
The proactive support from the Deumai Municipal government underscores a profound truth: when we upgrade the capabilities of local managers, we strengthen the economic backbone of the entire region. I left Deumai incredibly proud of these 25 cooperative leaders. They didn’t just learn a new software system; they actively chose to step into the future of resilient, transparent, and compliant institutional growth.
